![]() Females have two X chromosomes and so need two copies of this gene to become ginger, whereas males need only one. *This is because the “ginger gene” which produces the orange color is on the X chromosome. Ginger cats are more likely to be male than female. The amount of this pigment reflects how intense the ginger color of the cat is. Pheomelamine is the pigment responsible for the ginger color in cats. They can have an orange, red, or yellow-colored fur. Just like humans, there are different shades of ginger between cats. Ginger cat fans may know some of these already, but let’s take a look at these 5 Reasons Why Ginger Cats (also known as Orange Tabby Cats) are So Special: Their coloring: Photo by Christin Hume on Unsplash Most Americans remember such iconic ginger cat characters like Garfield with his funny, quirky, fun-loving attitude, and Hobbes of Calvin and Hobbes, who embodies playfulness and feline instincts. Tabby is available for the Senior adoption fee of $125 Are you that one special person for Tabby? While she’s not a fan of being picked up, she does like chin scratches and will rub up against your legs if she’s in a mellow mood. Tabby does have a secret soft side, and loves a cuddle from time to time. The problem is, we don’t want Tabby to live in the staff room forever (as much as we love her!), and we are searching for a super calm, patient, and experienced person to give Tabby what she needs to feel safe and relaxed. She is not for the faint of heart – she needs someone who will respect her boundaries, and ideally someone who does not have other pets or a busy household. Tabby settles in so nicely in the staff room here at the shelter, but has really struggled to settle into her adoptive homes.
